Big Beat in Seattle
On Sunday November 1st I was lucky enough to attend the Big beat event in Seattle Washington hosted by Donn Bennett of Donn Bennett's Drum Shop. The event was held at the Jaunita Field House in Kirkland, WA. We had 267 drummers playing together all at once. What a an incredible feeling. On the main stage was Sabian Artist Ray Luzier, current drummer for Korn and Sabian Artist Jeff Kathan of Paul Rodgers Band and Spike and the Impalers. These guys put on one incredible show for of us who attended! Ray's performance was Blazing! Jeff laid down a huge fat groove! Also putting on a great performance were the Sabian Artists The Blue Thunder, who are the official band for the Seattle Seahawks football team. This event was founded seven years ago by Chris Kimball and partner Donn Bennett. Most of the proceeds will be donated to under funded school music programs. This was one of twelve Big Beats that were all going on at the same time all around the country. All locations were attempting to break the Guiness Book Of Records for most drummers performing a 2 minute piece together on drum sets all in one room at one time. Seattle had the record of 533, until is was recently broken in England by a number of 588 drummers.

Mark Schulman at Lemmon Percussion
On Wednesday September 16th Sabian Artist Mark Schulman took a night from his busy tour schedule with artist Pink to perform an amazing clinic at Lemmon Percussion in San Jose, CA that was sponsored by Gretsch Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Vic Firth Sticks and Remo Drumheads. If any of you have seen Pink's show, you will know what a great drummer and showman Mark Schulman is. Mark has played with Foreigner, Simple Minds, Billy Idol, Cher , Velvet Revolver and currently Pink to name a few. From the second Mark walked in front of the large crowd, he had everybody going! Not only is he a great drummer, but he is extremely funny. He really gets the audience involved in his clinics. He even gave a drum lesson to one of the audience members. His clinic was very inspirational to all. He explained how attitude is everything and with a postive attitude and "a little bit of talent" thats how you land the gigs! Mark also played some amazing odd time grooves and played along with tunes from some of the artists he has toured with. Mark also is an accomplished cello player. He even performs on cello with Pink in concert! Mark ended the clinic by playing to a Beatles track paying respect to his favorite drummer of all time, Ringo Starr. Everyone, including myself walked out of his clinic feeling really inspired. If you ever get a chance to catch a Pink show or a Mark Schulman clinic please do so. It will be a amazing experience.

Dealer Vist to Meductic Day 2
Hi All,
This is Chris DeLisa, West Coast Regional Manager for Sabian. This morning 10 dealers from all over the US, VP of Sabian Lane Davy and myself headed from our Hotel back to the factory for the second day in a row. Some of us, just can't get enough of the Vault. Mark Love and the boys were there to help everyone pick out some amazing "One of a Kind" cymbals to take back home. In fact Jeff Ryder from Jeff Ryders's Drum shop in Austin, TX said " This kind of sucks! Everything I hit sounds great,so I have to buy them all!". Everyone had an amazing time and on the bus ride back to the Hotel everyone was talking about their new pies! Another great day on the US dealer visit to Meductic. Now, it's off for cocktails and dinner at the Hotel. |
