Sabian at The Hollywood Drum Show
Hello all, Bob Rupp here,,blogging a little late from beautiful Hollywood Calif.
The Drum Show this year was at Raleigh TV and Film Studios, located directly across from the famed Paramount Studios, on Melrose St., in Hollywood. The weather was a much given relief to the cold I have experiencing in my hometown of Denver.
We set up all day Friday, then the doors opened to an large, excited crowd on Sat. Sabian was the second booth in,,and we attracted lots of new fans, and some of my regular customers looking for that special cymbal!
Every year, our Canadian product specialists always select some fine proto types for this show.
I had about 50 'one of a kind' pies,,and they all sounded great!
I also showed our new Artisan crashes,,but these will not be avail until Jan. The Artisans are my personel cymbals from my drumkit, and the best sounding cymbals I have ever heard,,period!!! These are finely hammered crashes, with a raw bell. Clearly the 'buzz' of the show. All our artists who stopped by the booth will be ordering these when they are ready! Also, our new XS20 Brilliants were a big hit,,and I sold out of them on the second day.
I had HHX, AAX, AA, in many flavors. Also, my B8 Sandblasted Ozone were 'wowed' at.
Over the weekend, we had many local Sabian artists stop by the say hello and sign some autographs -
Ray Luzier, Todd Sucherman, Glen Sobule, Frankie Banelli, Tiny, Vinny Appice, Kevin Stevens, Ed Shaunessey, Carmine Appice, Dave Elich,Troy Zeilger,Mike Bennett, Bermuda Schwartz,Glenn Noyes, Cathy & Nick Rich, to name a few. (sorry if I left anyone out,, it was a long weekend!)
Also, my good friends Brian Levan from Remo, and snare drum engraving legend, and drum historian, John Aldridge graced us with their presence!!! hahahah!!

Todd S also did a spectaluar drum clinc at 2 pm on Saturday.
Sat night we all attended a bar b q at Chad Sexton's Drum City, and his mom, Linda, served up a mighty fine meal. We then went onward to see Sabian artist, Troy Zeilger, w Juliette Lewis at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles.
Troy is a monster! WOW!!!
Sunday was more cymbal fun all day. We sponsored a clinic with Nick Rich, Buddy Rich's grandson, who closed the show with a very cool drum/percussion clinic.
Cannot wait til next year - thanks to all who stopped by, and enjoy your new cymbals!
Big thanks to Sabian's Chris Delisa and Christian Stankee for helping out. Also, huge kudos to Glenn Noyes for help at the booth, and promoters Kerry Cruthfield and Ronn Dunnett for all their hard work! WOW!!!!

Sunday at the Chicago Drum Show
Hello again from the Chicago Drum Show! Saturday evening was rounded out by an incredible dinner hosted by the charming Jules Follett, the publisher of the upcoming drum book, "Sticks n Skins". ( www.sticksnskins.com). The enotourage encluded Zoro, Will Calhoun, Gregg Potter, Glenn Noyes, Bill Ludwig III, Jeff Ocheltree, DW's Jules Thomas, Gary Asher, Liz and Terry from Skins 'n' Tins Drum Shop,..and a collection of other drum industry charactors! Needless to say,,many laffs were had!!
Sunday started off with a bang,,,with plenty of cymbal buyers taking away some incredible prototype Sabians!
John 'Bermuda' Schwartz, Weird Al's drummer held a drum clinic at 1 pm.
John was extremely funny, and shared his views on being a practical working drummer in the music industry.
Later in the day, Will Calhoun held a master class for some very lucky drummers...
he was booked for only an hour... but the class went for 2 1/2 hours!! All the attendees loved it!
Many of my drum buddies stopped by the booth to hang out and chat with the customers. Will Calhoun fell in love with a killer 24" AA ride, and some cool 15" duo hi hats,,, and left the booth with them!!! I was jealous... I wanted them for myself!
The show ended with a raffle with tons of prizes... Sabian was happy to give away about 4 cymbals and some swag to the lucky winners.
Tear down and boxing is always tiring,,, but well worth the work!
On my way home to Denver now,,cannot wait to see my wife and doggies! Until next time... hope to meet you all on the road someday!

Sabian at Chicago Vintage Drum Show
hey all,, Bob Rupp here,, attending the fabulous Chicago Custom and Vintage Drum Show, in St Charles, IL., put on my my good friend, Rob Cook.
Let me apologize now for the lack of today's pictures,,my memory card is not cooperating with my laptop.... but, I should have images up on Sunday. I arrived late on Friday, with a rain delay that put me back my 3 hours! I had to quickly get my Sabian booth set up,,,, featuring numberous 'prototype' cymbals, hand selected by Sabian's Mark Love.
Friday night was a 100 year aniv tribute to Ludwig Drums, and it was inspiring and emotional! All my pals from Ludwig were there, including William F Ludwig, III.
Today's show opened at 10 am,, and we were busy right outta the gate!
This has been the biggest 'traffic' drum show that I have attended. Many awesome vintage drums,,and alot of cool custom drums as well...if you love drums like me,,,you would be in heaven!
But,, the real story here is protoypes! Our specialists in Canada cooked some yummy
'pies' up, ..just for this show, and this year,,they topped themselves! I have crazy sounds at my booth, and the drummers are loving it! Weird Ozones, beautiful flat rides. 'shipwheels'. zany splashes,.. 16" AA RAW Hi Hats, 24" rides--- HH, HHX, AA, AAX...in every shape, size, and sound. '
Today, we had a Zoro clinic at 1 pm, and a Will Calhoun clinic at 3 pm! Both guys 'wowed' the crowd. Sabian artist, Greg Potter, is the emcee of the entire show,,and he is always good for a few laughs! ( But, I need to write him some new material....hahahahaha!). Lots of our drum industry pals have stopped by the booth,,,and I will have some pictures up later! On Sunday, Sabian has Weird Al's legendary Bermuda Schwartz in clinic and story-telling..... I cannot wait!

Well, I am off to dinner w/ Will, Zoro, GCs Glenn Noyes.... and a crew of crazy drum people... should be a fun night!
More details to follow!
