Biography
The Vegas Vanguard was founded by Executive Director Brian Howerton in 2004 with the purpose of providing the youth of Las Vegas with an opportunity to further educate themselves in percussion performance, proper playing techniques, musicianship, dedication, hard work, healthy competition, and teamwork. The group gives students who don't have an indoor percussion ensemble at their high school, college, or university, an opportunity to join a high quality organization that will provide the proper education to allow the student to continue their percussion endeavors. The organization is made up of two ensembles that serve the Las Vegas Valley, The Percussion Theater and The Entertainment Drumline.
Vegas Vanguard Percussion Theater (VVPT) has been a member of Winter Guard International in the Percussion Independent A Class since 2005, and has competed in several of the WGI West Coast Regional's. VVPT has also participated in Southern California Percussion Alliance Circuit Championships in the PIA Class in 2006 (1st place), 2007 (2nd place), and 2009 (1st place). The ensemble competes locally in the Southern Nevada Indoor Percussion Association Circuit, placing first in the Independent A/Open Class every year since its inception in 2006.
Vegas Vanguard Entertainment Drumline (VVED) was founded by Executive Director Brian Howerton in 2006 and is made up of players of all ages. The ensemble has performed at several special events in Las Vegas, including on stage with Country Artist Keith Urban, Gene Simmons of KISS, Beacher's Madhouse Comedy Show, Professional Boxer Floyd "Money" Mayweather, unveiling of the celebrity star for Toni Braxton and Shaq O'Neil, red carpet movie premiers, conventions, and Paris Hilton's private parties.
