Biography

Eric Millstein is principal percussionist of the Grant Park Orchestra and is also a section percussionist with Lyric Opera of Chicago. Since moving to Chicago in 2002, Eric has performed with a variety of ensembles, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Fulcrum Point New Music Project, and Music of the Baroque. He was previously a member of the New World Symphony and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. Eric is a faculty member at the DePaul University School of Music and has been a percussion coach for Midwest Young Artists, the Chicago Youth Symphony, and the New World Symphony. He presented a clinic at the 2003 Percussive Arts Society International Convention as well as at the 2006 Illinois Day of Percussion.

A native of the Washington, D.C. area, his first teacher was Nora Davenport. Eric earned a Bachelor of Music degree from New England Conservatory (where he studied with Will Hudgins) and a Master of Music degree from Temple University (where he was a student of Alan Abel's). He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Tufts University.
