COUNTRY United States
GROUP GRANGER SMITH, EARL DIBBLES JR., EVANS BLUE
After exploding onto the scene in 2007 as the drummer for modern rock band Ember, Dusty Saxton has become one of the busiest touring and session drummers in Texas. Making a name for himself nationwide, he is currently on tour with country artist Brandon Rhyder. Dusty has performed with a variety of artists, ranging from indie rockers Language Room to alternative rock band Alpha Rev. Expanding his influence into the country scene, Dusty has become one of Texas' most well known live and studio drummers.
Dusty got his first set of drumsticks when he was only 2 years old. But if you ask him when he started playing drums, he'll simply tell you he doesn't remember. He played in high school drumline and later taught as a drumline instructor. He is a huge fan and follower of DCI. He also spent time in college studying upright and electric bass and has occasionally lent a hand on session guitar. But his main instrument, first and foremost, has always been the drums.
Growing up in the small town of Lorena, Texas, Dusty moved to Austin to pursue a professional drumming career at 21. Replying to a Craigslist ad placed by the drummer-seeking Ember, Dusty got the gig and immediately began a tour of the US and Europe, opening for bands like Theory of a Deadman, Hinder, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Stonesour, Blue October, and Black Stone Cherry. He also played on the Ember's only nationally distributed album "Embrace", released by EMI/VSR in April 2010 - he can be seen in the music video for the track "Embrace". Post-Ember, Dusty spent time as a fill-in and session drummer and soon became one of the most in-demand drummers in Austin. During SXSW 2011, Dusty performed with Hollywood Records artist Alpha Rev, and very shortly after got the call to tour with country artist Brandon Rhyder.
Dusty enjoys touring and recording all types of music, whether country, rock, pop, metal, jazz, or R&B. His musical taste is as broad as his influences, which range from Vinnie Colaiuta and Buddy Rich, to Abe Cunningham and Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, to Chris Dave and Questlove. He loves being on the road and often travels to see - and hang with - other tours on his days off. He's played over 270 shows in 2010, staying on the road enough to make a permanent address obsolete! It is obvious to anyone watching him on stage that Dusty loves what he does. We expect many great things from him in the years to come.
