Biography

Dr. Brian A. West is a Professor of Music and the Coordinator of Percussion at Texas Christian University. Under his direction, both the concert and marching programs at TCU have received international recognition. The TCU Percussion Orchestra won the 2011, 2008 and 2005 Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble Competitions, and the TCU Drumline won the 2012 and 2006 PAS Marching Percussion Festivals.

Prior to coming to TCU, Dr. West served as the Director of Percussion Studies at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Under his direction, the TAMU-C Percussion Ensemble won the 2000 PAS International Percussion Ensemble Competition.

Internationally Dr. West has conducted/performed in Spain, England, France, Australia, and Taiwan. Locally he performs regularly at his church and is a per-service percussionist with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. As the Percussion Artistic Director for the "International Festival of Winds and Percussion", Dr. West coordinates percussion ensembles for performances at various international locations. This includes conducting and performing with his own ensemble the "West Percussion Group".

Dr. West's passion for the percussion ensemble has led to commissioning/premiering over twenty-five new works for this medium. Within the Percussive Arts Society he serves on the Board of Advisors, the Percussion Ensemble Committee, and chairs the New Literature Session sub-committee.

Dr. West is an active clinician, composer/arranger, and adjudicator for a variety of percussive events. He holds degrees from the University of Oklahoma, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and the University of North Texas. Dr. West is the Executive Producer of three CDs, is published by drop6 media, and works as a clinician/endorser for Innovative Percussion, Yamaha, Remo, Marimba One, and Sabian.
