Biography

The 350 member Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Band is one of the oldest programs in the country, dating back to 1908. The Tech Band has performed at such prestigious events as the Orange Bowl, Sun Bowl, Rose Bowl, Citrus Bowl, Gator Bowl, All American Bowl, Aloha Bowl, Seattle Bowl, CarQuest Bowl, Peach Bowl, Super Bowl XXXIV, the 1990 and 2004 Final Fours and numerous other NCAA events. In 2008 the band performed in the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. The Yellow jacket Band is a regular exhibition band at many regional high school band competitions including the Atlanta Bands of America Regional and Atlanta Falcon's Football games. Recently the band has appeared in the motion picture release "Drumline", "We Are Marshall", "Bobby Jones: A Stroke of Genius" and onstage with Shania Twain, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney and Sugarland.

At Georgia Tech, the Music Department provides a creative cultural outlet for Tech's many musically minded students. Whether a student's interest is casual or intense, the music faculty is dedicated to providing a quality experience in the theory, history and practice of music. Institute research has revealed that student retention is 4.5 times greater for students involved in music.

In addition to the fall schedule, members of the Yellow Jacket Marching Band also participate in the Volleyball and Basketball Pep Bands and are active in Symphonic and Concert Band, music theory, music technology courses and various ensembles. Music students are encouraged to develop leadership skills and provide service to fellow band members and events.

Students in the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Marching Band represent a wide range of colleges and major courses of study yet find the music program offers plenty of fellowship, an exceptional musical outlet, and an abundance of school spirit to complete their educational experience. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Marching Band is rich in history and tradition and offers a commitment to campus and community that greatly adds to the quality of life at Georgia Tech.
