SABIAN Adds Legendary Jazz Drummer Jimmy Cobb To Artist Roster
Veteran of Miles, Coltrane and Adderley Chooses Hand Hammered Cymbals
Jazz drummer Jimmy Cobb, whose inspired performances and recordings with Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Cannonball Adderley are legendary, recently joined the SABIAN International Artist Program and is now playing the vintage dark sounds of the award-winning company's hand hammered HH cymbal series.
Commented Paul Cellucci, SABIAN artist relations specialist: “Jimmy Cobb's performance on the Miles Davis masterpiece Kind of Blue, the most popular recording in the history of jazz, is just one of many highlights for this superb musician. Sketches of Spain, Someday My Prince Will Come, Live at Carnegie Hall and Porgy and Bess are among the many recorded testaments to his musical touch, taste and genius.”
“I was pleasantly surprised on how good SABIAN cymbals sound,” commented Cobb. “I knew the company is innovative and has a historical connection that stretched back through the centuries; I'd even heard many good things about SABIAN from friends, but I had never actually tried the cymbals. When I played the HH series I immediately fell for that dark and complex tone that works so well for jazz. These are traditional cymbals with vintage sounds. I didn't realize someone was still making cymbals like this!”
In 2008, Jimmy Cobb will undertake a world tour to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the release of Kind of Blue.
