JAZZ GREAT IGNACIO BERROA OFFERS PRIVATE INSTRUCTION, WORKSHOPS AND MONTHLY CONCERTS AT NEW JERSEY SCHOOL OF PERCUSSION
on 11/1/13Born in Havana, Cuba in 1953, Ignacio Berroa is widely recognized as one of the great Jazz and Latin Jazz drummers of our time. His contributions to the American music scene have earned him a spot among a very selective group of artists who have set musical trends in the 20th century.
Jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie referred to Berroa as “the only Latin drummer in the world, in the history of American music that intimately knows both worlds, his native Afro-Cuban music as well as Jazz.”
Beginning January 2013, Ignacio Berroa will begin teaching at the New Jersey School of Percussion, located at 14 Northfield Ave, West Orange, NJ. In addition to taking on private students, Ignacio will be leading Workshops on Afro-Cuban, Jazz and Latin Jazz drumming and will be presenting Rhythm section classes as well.
The first workshop will take place February 17, 2013 from 3 to 5 PM, followed by a concert by the Ignacio Berroa Trio, featuring Vic Juris on guitar and Bill Moring on bass.
