Frankfurt, Germany Mar 15, 2008
SABIAN bring their new innovations with a continued inspirational pallet of sounds for 2008 to the Frankfurt Musikmesse (Germany). There was a hive of activity at the SABIAN booth location Hall 3 C75 as drummers exchanged information and made new contacts as they tested out new products for 2008.
A huge hit at NAMM 2008 in Anaheim, the launch of the new APX series makes a welcome appearance and breaks through the barriers of curiosity - these are designed for the heavier and harder players with its high pitched tones and volume projection. Drummers checked out the new series and particularly the APX Ozone with its unmistakable look was an attraction in the series.
Also on display, The Chopper (8", 10", 12") with its distinctive effect incorporating rivets and multi-layered design struck the imagination of drummers and percussionists.
In addition, the Alu-Bells (7", 9") highlighted their harmonic tones - great for those add-ons especially to percussionists.
The Limited Edition 23" OverRide, a rock cymbal designed for Jimmy DeGrasso, of Alice, Ozzy, and Megadeth fame was also on display
The 21" Vault CrossOver Ride, a highly versatile cymbal with tonal character that ensures versatility with no compromise - this took a particular shine to most jazz and R&B drummers with its dark projection and complimentary 'wash' making it very easy for fast stick articulation - it also has a great retro feel.
13" Vault Fierce Hats, created for Jojo Mayer was also one of the highlights. With the continued success of his DVD 'Secret Weapons For The Modern Drummer' retaining the No. 1 slot in the Instructional DVD charts, Jo Jo Mayer made himself available on the SABIAN booth to demonstrate these hats as well as putting in a performance on the Agora Stage.
As at NAMM 2008, the show also
saw our Signature cymbals all joining the Vault collection (so now it's Vault
Fierce Ride, Vault Max Stax, etc.).
Also, our Hand Hammered series has reverted back to its original name, HH.
There was a new SABIAN Sound Catalog, and a special edition magazine entitled 'What's Your Sound?', which is the question you'll be seeing from us in 2008.

SABIAN Lifetime Achievement Awards salutes and honors the dedication of drummers and key figures that have made a contribution to the world of percussion.
The recipients this year went to Tony Wallis who continues to quietly inspire all drummers especially in the classical arena and Dom Famularo for his dedication to the craft, his philosophical insight, his inspiring motivation and infectious humor - all of which are powerful tools that allow him to gather drummers from the globe.
The European All Star Groove Night held by Yamaha makes its debut appearance at The Festhalle as part of the Musikmesse events and many drummers across Europe and U.S. joined the event. With historic success at the NAMM show in Anaheim, the event was showcased in Europe for the first time.
"It's pretty rare to have so many great drummers in one place," said host Rick Marotta. "Even better is that they're all going to get to play. This show is a thrill for drummers and casual music fans alike."
