One of the World's Great Percussion Festivals Features Star Line-Up
In Sao Paulo, Brasil, July 18th and 19th, at the Ibirapuera Auditorium, Batuka! Brasil plays host to top drummers Vera Figueiredo and Daniel Oliveira, R&B all-star Zoro, percussion group Tribores, singer Tony Bennett's brush expert Clayton Cameron, and Gabriel Martins, a winner of the event's National Drummer Contest. Past performers include late great Jim Chapin, Dave Weckl, Dom Famularo, Sam Aliano, Jonathan Mover, and Virgil Donati, as well as Zimbo Trio, a leading group from the Bossa Nova era, the extraordinary Banda Mantiqueira Big Band, and drummer Daniel Baeder, who is now with Cirque du Soleil.
According to Batuka! Brasil: This festival combines leading international names with top Brazilian performers, which highlights diversity and cultural exchange, which is invaluable for the players themselves, music students, and the audience. In addition to all the great music this brings to the festival, it leads to a richer understanding of everyone's musical background. To this we add the National Drummers Contest, to focus on the new drumset talent of Brasil. Among its winners is Rafael Barata, who is now with Edu Lobo, one to the great composers of Brazilian music.
