Foundation Triangle

What is the foundation triangle?

Whether your dream cymbal set-up is small or large, the ride, crash and hi-hats will be the main cymbals or foundation of a cymbal set-up. When positioned at the drum set they form a triangle.

Adding more cymbals will increase your sound options and playing potential. A second crash, bigger or smaller, lighter or heavier; a Chinese for raw and accents and riding; a small splash for punchy accent sounds. The most popular additions are:

  • Splash
  • Chinese
  • 2nd Crash or Crash/Ride
  • Remote or X-Hat

(Many players add a second hi-hat, often to the right of their set-up.) The remote is cable-connected and works like a regular hi-hat. The X-hat is a no-pedal clamp attachment that holds a permanently closed hi-hat.
