Tomas Haake, born 13 July 1971 in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.
Known for his drumming with Swedish metal band Meshuggah, of which Tomas has been a full time member since 1990. A band who’s signature approach to odd, permutive and cyclic patterns over a straight 4/4 has given them accolades from the metal and progressive communities alike, for almost two decades.
The first Meshuggah fullength album Contradictions Collapse was released in 1991 on Nuclear Blast records and this first release shows a mindblowing sense of playfulness and odd rhythmic structures! This first fullength shows a lot of influences from bands like Anthrax, Holy Moses, Metallica etc as well as some fusion jazz/rock influences like Allan Holdsworth, U.K and John Scofield – those jazz/rock influences audible mainly in the guitar leads/solos by Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal. Since this first release, Meshuggah have continued to push the boundaries of their rhythmically and tonally advanced form of metal, album by album. Including the first fullength release, Tomas has recorded 7 fullength albums and an additional few EP’s and “specials” with his fellas in Meshuggah... these are as follows:
1991 – Contradictions Collapse
1993 – None EP
1994 – Selfcaged EP
1995 – Destroy Erase Improve CD
1996 – True Human Design EP/Special w/remixes etc
1998 – Chaosphere CD
2001 – Rare Trax CD w/first Meshuggah EP and unreleased tracks
2002 – Nothing CD
2004 – I CD
2005 – Catch Thirtythree CD
2008 – obZen CD
