Biography
Sergio Melo, born in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, and has been drumming since the age of 14. He has recorded over 200 albums of diverse styles with the biggest names in national and international music industry. His began in the city of Vitoria, Espirito Santo, working with local artists puntil 1994 he received his first big break when he was chosen by an American band to record and tour an album in the United States. Living in Texas for a year he had the opportunity to play with many well renowned musicians, including guitarist Eric Johnson.
Returning to Rio de Janeiro he began working with singer Danilo Caymmi recording on two of his albums later joining the Paulo Ricardo band (five years), nearly the singer’s entire solo career recording on four albums (5 gold discs, 3 platinum discs and a Latin Grammy nomination for the "Best Pop Album" of 1998)
He recorded singer Ana Carolina’s first album, later doing her second and third most successful Album, "Ana Rita Joana Iracema e Carolina" (Gold and Platinum discs). 2002 he became involved in the "FAMA" project (Musical Talent Show) on Globo Tv (Largest Television network in Brazil, Third largest in the world). He in a 3-month period recorded 120 songs with the program releasing one album per week (1 Gold and 1 Platinum) setting a record for the Brazilian phonographic industry.
For over 6 years Sergio has taken part in the musical attractions of the Globo TV in events like "BRASIL 500 ANOS" in Paris and Brasilia, "CRIANÇA ESPERANÇA" (a UNICEF project to raising money for underprivileged children) as well as dividing his time between studio and stage work including recording albums by artist’s Tim Maia, Ney Matogrosso, Roberto Carlos, O Terço, Fábio Jr, Elba Ramalho, Caetano Veloso, Alcione, Ivete Sangalo, Amigos, Sandy & Jr, Daniela Mercury, Black Rio, Pepeu Gomes and many more. Artists such as Kleber Lucas, Aline Barros and Cassiane from the Gospel world, all tolled he's recorded on 32 gold discs, 13 platinum and 2 Grammy Award winning discs.
