His funky syncopations, percolating grooves, and off-the-wall fills have fascinated drummers ever since Little Feat made their initial musical mark in the 70's. Through a long list of classic albums including Sailin' Shoes, Feats Don't Fail Me Now, The Last Record Album, Let it Roll, and the live Waiting For Columbus Richie has defined his own niche by blending early jazz influences with Meters-style New Orleans funk, a touch of Americana roots and a rock'n'roll drive that has earned him a place as one of today's most unique drummers. Along the way he stepped out to play with Led Zep's Robert Plant, Joan Armatrading, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, and others in search of a drummer who could flavor their music like only Richie can. Today Richie Hayward is as vital as ever, with session work, a new side project called Endangered Species, and the ever-busy Little Feat ensuring this great drummer continues to be heard in a context that inspires and excites all those who hear his simmering grooves.
