hottest young drummers on the planet. A player steeped in jazz tradition, he was raised on gospel and bebop and fed a healthy diet of contemporary jazz, funk and fusion. Playing since the age of two - starting in a church where his father was pastor - Marcus feels his talent is a natural, 'spirit-guided' path. After majoring in jazz at the Manis School for Music, he turned pro and laid down grooves for Cassandra Wilson before joining jazz great Kenny Garret. Special projects with guitarist John Schofield boosted his profile. When the Yellowjackets needed a drummer, it was Marcus who got the call. That all-star band wanted someone special, someone who could cut the contemporary side of jazz fusion, yet still dig in to the smoky depths of traditional jazz.
