Biography

From Zurich, Switzerland, the Son of Musician/Bass player Vali Mayer, he spent much of his early childhood on the road in Europe and the Far East. At age 2 he got his first drum set making his first public performance in Hong Kong at 3-years old. By 18 he joined Monty Alexander's group touring Europe at the Major Festivals, (North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux, Nice, Antibes and Athens), that lead to gigs with Dizzy Gillespie & Nina Simone all the while introducing him to the larger International Jazz audience.

Residing in New York City since 1991, he engaged in Live and Studio work that included his involvement as a writer and producer. He Promoted weekly events called PROHIBITED BEATZ, that became his platform for live Breakbeats, Jungle, Drum n' Bass, Nu-Skool Breaks and his latest Hybrids & Mutations. This experience provided the backdrop for his solo project, NERVE and Endeavor in Reverse Engineering he uses textures and rhythms of the current stream of computer generated music, interacting in a Live Improvisational Format, NERVE and PROHIBITED BEATZ created a landmark in New York's downtown scene.

His performance's range from The Screaming Headless Torsos, Meshell n'dege Occello, Vernon Reid's science project, DJ Spooky, the Vienna Art Orchestra, Wayne Krantz, Gerald Veasley, John Zorn, James Blood Ulmer, Chico Freeman, Dhaffer Yousef, John Medeski, Hiram Bullock, Depart, The intergalactic Maiden Ballet, Friedrich Gulda, Harry Sokal, Mike Stern & Wah Wah Watson.

Jojo, a skilled clinician appeared at the Modern Drummer Festival (1998, 2004), Buddy Rich Memorial Scholarship/NYC (1995), International Drummer Meeting/Koblenz (1989, 91, 95), PASIC (1996, 2003), Montreal Drum Fest (1996), NAMM Show's "Drums Along the Hilton" (SABIAN/1996), Slagwerkkrant Dag (1996), Budapest Dob-Gala (1994, 95), Manny's Drum-Mania NYC (1998) & Musik Messe Frankfurt(1993, 97).

If that's not enough, he has also been involved in product development with SABIAN's (Vault "Fierce Ride", "Fierce Crash" & "Fierce Hats" Models)
