The arrival of Punk in the mid-70's sent the UK music scene into a revolutionary spin. One of the few non-punk bands to survive and thrive during and beyond that period of socio/musical turmoil was London-based Squeeze. With hits like Take Me I'm Yours, Tempted, Up the Junction and Cool for Cats this band of quality musos was driven by the tasty backbeat of Gilson Lavis. A drummer with great time and grooves that swing like nobody's business, Gilson - a big fan of another great London pop band, The Small Faces - later found himself with post-Squeeze keyboardist and UK music personality Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. Today, between touring, TV and recording with Holland with highlights including playing London's Millennium Dome celebration to a TV audience of 3 billion; the album Small Band, Big World featuring guests Sting, George Harrison, Taj Mahal and Joe Strummer; and backing everyone from Eric Clapton, BB King, Stevie Winwood and Chaka Khan to Al Green on the TV show Later with Jools Holland, Gilson is also one of the UK's best and busiest session players.
